Stephen joined Innes England as Head of Finance and Operations in September 2026, bringing almost four decades of finance experience gained across a diverse range of sectors.
Stephen began his career in finance with the NHS before going on to study at Nottingham Trent University as a mature student.
Since then, he has held senior finance roles across a wide variety of industries, including communications, supply chain, warehousing and logistics, IT outsourcing, food supply, leisure and professional services.
His career has included roles with NTL/Virgin Media, Excel Logistics and Digica, as well as Fairfax Meadow, a major catering butcher supplying leading hospitality names and hotel groups. He also spent two years living and working at Potters Resorts in Norfolk, home of the World Indoor Bowls Championships.
Most recently, Stephen worked for Midlands accountancy practice HSKS Greenhalgh, before its acquisition by Dains Accountants.
As Head of Finance and Operations, Stephen oversees a broad range of financial and operational responsibilities across Innes England.
His role includes the preparation and review of management accounts and the annual business plan, as well as overseeing the annual audit process. He also manages key relationships with external partners, including the firm’s IT provider, insurance brokers and banking partners.
Drawing on his experience of working with businesses of different sizes and across multiple sectors, Stephen brings a broad commercial perspective to the role.
Outside of work, Stephen lives with his partner Stacey and her daughter Zara. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, getting out for walks in the countryside and going to the gym.
He is also a fan of Northern Soul and Motown and has a longstanding interest in the mod scene and classic Lambrettas and Vespas, having previously been a regular at scooter rallies.
Sport has played a big part in Stephen’s life too. He had trials for the Team GB judo squad in the mid-1980s and later competed in the British Open for Shotokan Karate, finishing fourth.
His talents extend beyond martial arts. In his younger years, Stephen achieved his third Gold Bar in Ballroom, Latin and Disco dancing – and even finished second in a competition, although, as Stephen is quick to point out, there were only two competitors!

The Challenge: Innes England opened its Birmingham office in April 2022 to establish a stronger foothold in the West Midlands commercial property market. While the company had an existing presence in the region, a dedicated office was needed to better serve clients, secure key instructions, and expand valuation, agency, and asset management services. The challenge was to compete in a fast-moving market, attract new clients, and demonstrate tangible value to landlords, developers, investors and financial institutions.
The Challenge: Arthur Johnson and Sons Auctioneers, a historic Nottingham business established in 1888, faced the potential loss of their statutory right to a lease renewal due to ongoing redevelopment threats in the area. The challenge was to navigate complex and prolonged negotiations to secure protected leases on favourable terms, ensuring the business could continue operating from its historic home, despite looming redevelopment pressures that had persisted for nearly 20 years.
